Smaller (150,000), more haunted, more relaxed. Both offer: horse-drawn carriage tours, antebellum architecture, fried green tomatoes, sweet tea, hospitable Southern manners. Drive between them: 2 hours along coastal SC. Many visitors do both in 4-5 day trip (2 days each, 1 day driving with stop at Hilton Head or Beaufort).
